Water System Monitoring

HSE’s guidance on controlling legionella includes a requirement to carry out Hot & Cold Water Monitoring, which includes routinely checking the temperature of all hot and cold water services – Hot & Cold Water Monitoring.

HSE L8 (Fourth edition) & HSG274 “Legionnaires’ Disease, The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems” asks for a written scheme for controlling the risk from exposure. This should be implemented and properly managed so that all water services are routinely checked for correct temperature, water demand and inspected for cleanliness and use.

Temperature control is the traditional strategy for reducing the risk of Legionella in water systems.

Routine Temperature Monitoring

Hot & cold water outlets (tap, showers etc.) should be monitored on a regular basis. Sentinel outlets should be monitored monthly to comply with guidance documents.

This can be done by our Competent Engineers or Remotely with our Innovative Online Monitoring Systems. We can provide a comprehensive range of services for water hygiene maintenance, inspection and monitoring to HSE & Healthcare requirements, including hot and cold water monitoring – routine temperature monitoring.

Cold water should be maintained, where possible, at a temperature below 20°C.

Hot water should be stored at least 60°C and distributed so that it reaches a temperature of 50°C (55°C in healthcare premises) within one minute at the outlets.

Waterman Compliance Services can help you to ensure your water systems are safe, clean and fully compliant with all current legislation. The HSE’s guidance on controlling legionella includes a requirement to routinely check the temperature of all hot and cold water services.

Other Monitoring Methods

Some sites use other treatment methods, such as chemicals (e.g. Chlorine Dioxide) or supplementary measures (e.g. Ozone Generation, UV treatment) to control both legionella and biofilm growth in hot and cold water systems.

In the appropriate application, these methods may be used to aid legionella control where maintaining a conventional temperature regime is difficult or where the removal of all dead legs and little used outlets is impractical.

Waterman can provide all types of methods to control bacteriological growth in water systems, ensuring our clients comply with legislation while also offering a range of innovative and environmentally friendly water solutions that will help them with cost & energy savings.

Scheduled Jobs

Lists and illustrates each number of jobs to be completed in the calendar month.

Completed Jobs

Number of jobs completed in the calendar month.

Completed On Time

Number of jobs completed on time as per schedule.

% Non-Compliant Closed

Number of non-compliant jobs actioned and closed off.

1,2,3 Repeat Failures

Assets that have repeatedly failed on 1, 2 or 3 consecutive visits.

Top Ten Highest Rank

Displays the top ten sites with the largest number of non-conformities.

Asset Identification

All assets on site are given a unique five / six digit number which allows the system to uniquely identify that specific asset, its location and frequency of testing.

Asset Location

Any individual can navigate to the exact asset to conduct the PPM check with minimal knowledge, thus preventing common mistakes.

Consistency of Data

Any asset can be made live or hibernated with a few minimal clicks via an office administrator allowing for certain rooms, floors, or blocks to be renovated without losing the data.

Photographic Evidence

All non-conformities or items to be escalated can be captured within the system for the client to review and action accordingly, in most cases providing both pre and post work photographs.

Client Signature:

If required, any section can have a client’s signature inserted to approve the engineers work at the time of the visit, inputting both their printed name, signature as well as the time and date of the visit.
